PDF/A is an ISO standard for long-term PDF archiving. Many scanners and “Scan to PDF” apps save files as PDF/A, so enabling it makes the output resemble a genuine scan more closely. PDF/A-1b offers the broadest compatibility, while PDF/A-2b produces smaller files.

How to turn a Word document into a scanned PDF

Can I convert a DOCX file directly without exporting a PDF first?

Supported formats: .docx, .docm, .dotx, .dotm, .doc, .wps, .wpt. Files are processed in your browser; macros do not run. Support for .doc / .wps is experimental. Check fonts and layout in the preview.

What if Word fonts, tables or page breaks look wrong in the preview?

The browser may lay out a Word document differently from Word itself. Export the document as a PDF from Word, check that PDF, then select it here to add the scan effect. This more reliably preserves the fonts, tables and page breaks shown in Word.

Will the downloaded file still be an editable Word document?

The download is a PDF containing page images. Keep your original Word file for editing. To make the PDF’s text searchable and copyable, turn on “Preserve original text (OCR-like)” in Output Settings.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Standard and bulk scanning process source documents in your browser without sending those files to a processing server. HTML files may load linked online resources such as images or fonts while they are rendered. Word, PowerPoint and Excel may download missing fonts; source documents stay on your device.

Is it free, and is there a limit?

Standard scanning is free and needs no signup. Free scans have a fixed daily limit; Pro lifts it and also unlocks bulk scanning, an ad-free workspace and API access.
